WHY DO WE NEED MAMMOTH LAKES ARTS CENTER?

A community with a wide range of cultural opportunities is a healthy community. Mammoth Lakes Arts Center is a vital and viable proponent of culture within Mammoth Lakes as well as the Inyo/Mono County area, both enhancing and contributing to the community. Its goal is to provide entertainment and cultural enrichment now and to continue to act as a prized source of inspiration and enjoyment for the community of tomorrow.

In addition to the cultural impact Mammoth Lakes Arts Center has on the community, it will also have significant economic impact, infusing the area with new tourist dollars, giving rise to new employment opportunities and helping local retail establishments, hotels and restaurants.

It is proven that a theatre can help increase sales in the area retail businesses and restaurant by as much as 25% –statistic that cannot be ignored. When a show begins at 8:00pm, people come into the area to dine, stroll and stop. And tourists spend even more per instance than locals.

WILL THERE BE SPECIAL PROGRAMING FOR CHILDREN?

Yes. Mammoth Lakes Arts Center is passionate about developing the intellectual and emotional well-being of children. In addition to the Mammoth Lakes Arts Center’s regular season productions, a special Children’s Theatre production is planned.

HOW IS MAMMOTH LAKES ARTS CENTER DIFFERENT FROM WHAT ALREADY EXISTS?

Mammoth Lakes Arts Center is a permanent theatre facility producing the highest-quality Equity-waiver productions. There is some limited live theatre available locally now, but it does not have a permanent home.

VOLUNTEERS

Mammoth Lakes Arts Center anticipates tremendous involvement from the community, with scores of volunteers who assist in all aspects of our work — from ushering and box office support to helping with sets, costumes and special events.

Consider joining MLAC’s team! It’s a fun way to get involved and learn more about the theater - and we need your help! Check out the categories below, then call our volunteer line or e-mail us at: ml-tc@sbcglobal.net

Ushers

We are always looking for friendly, reliable people to help the house manager greet and seat the audience at each performance. Come an hour before the show, help our house manager prepare programs, then greet patrons as they arrive and help them find their seats. Ushers are then welcome to stay and enjoy the show at no charge. Our house manager needs two to four ushers per week, and sets the schedule two to three weeks before each show opens. We also need people willing to fill in on short notice.

Box office and bar

We need one to three helpers to assist our box office manager with the pre-show rush. Arrive an hour before the show, then assist with refreshments or distributing tickets as the audience arrives and at intermission. Work three performances during any show and you earn a pair of passes.

Sewing/costumes

Our busy costume staff needs volunteers to assist with all levels of sewing. They create all our costumes on a demanding schedule, so we can always use extra help in this fun and challenging department. Sign up to be on-call for “crunch” time, or for a few hours a week.

Set building/painting

Our scenic design crew is always looking for people with building and painting skills to help with set construction and scenic painting. Learn the tricks of the trade, as you help our professional staff create MLAC’s beautiful sets.

Guest housing

Mammoth Lakes Arts Center brings in guest artists each year, and we’re always looking for patrons willing to provide them with a place to stay. Our visiting actors, designers and directors, come for two-to-10 weeks at a time and are responsible for their own food and transportation. If you have guest quarters and are interested in helping us out, please call or e-mail at ml-tc@sbcglobal.net
